Dear Friends,

We live in the vibrant neighborhood of Back of the Yards, Chicago. Our community is full of strength, love and resilience. We are proud of our neighborhood and the incredible people who live here. Yet, OUR story is not being told. The majority of news articles written about Back of the Yards focus on violence, guns and theft. 

We, the third graders of Chavez Elementary, believe that stories of friendship, hard work and activism in BOTY deserve to be told. We are taking matters into our own hands and rewriting the narrative. 

We took on the roles of journalists, artists and editors to publish a magazine full of stories and articles that reflect the community we know and love.
